Letter, 31 May 1887.

Letter primarily traces Hobson's service in the Union army. He recalls commanding troops and overseeing cavalry operations; recounts battles and skirmishes at Shiloh, Munfordville (Ky.), Perryville (Ky.), Mount Washington (Ky.), Crab Orchard (Ky.), Corinth (Miss.), and Saltville (Va.); describes chasisng John Hunt Morgan through Ohio; and tells of pursuing Confederates and, in turn, being pursued himself. Additionally, Hobson briefly notes his service in the Mexican War under the command of Zachary Taylor.
